The black beads are large, with each Ave Maria bead measuring 10 mm; the Pater Beads are double-capped and measure 13-14mm. We have not tested the beads which feel like crystal or glass. The configuration of the Rosenkranz is slightly different from modern day rosaries; There are additional Pater Beads at either end of the 5 decades. There are therefore 8 Pater Beads in total instead of the usual 6 in modern rosaries. Aside from that, everythng else is the same. The two Pater Beads along with the Three Hail Mary beads are made of silver and are probably replacement beads. The Cross measures 1 4/5 by 2 4/5 inches. The Center Medal is large and elaborate. GALLEON TREASURE - ANTIQUE SPANISH COLONIAL SILVER ROSARY, LARGE BEADS, LONG - For some 333 years, Spain conducted a galleon trade between Seville, Mexico, and the Philippines, transporting Spanish colonial goods throughout Spain's vast empire. This silver rosary hails from the Spanish Colonial days in the Philippines, the 1800s. Each Ave Maria bead measures 7mm; the Pater beads measure 9mm and are double capped. The caps of two Pater beads are different from the caps of the other two; this is barely noticeable. The necklace part measures a long 36 inches all around; the dangling part from the Center Medal to the tip of the Cross is 8 inches. The Cross measures 1 1/2 by 2 1/2 inches, and is inscribed in the back, "Dolor San Gabrel." The lovely Center Medal measures 3/4 inch and has the monograms "TDG." The rosary weighs 59.9 grams. This is a unique find - a rare authentic Spanish Colonial silver rosary.

The Cross measures 3 inches by 5/8 inch, and is more than 1/4 inch sideways. There are 6 beautiful smokey topaz stones, measuring 10 mm in diameter. The earrings are made of large oval stones measuring 18 mm by 15 mm. The set weighs 26 grams. The stones aer much lovelier than the picture shows; the stones are that classic browish clear color, quite lovely. It is vintage from the 1940s, from new-old stock, so it has like new. It's made of heavy irregular cut crystal beads, measuring 8-9 mm. The beads have a lovely citrine yellow color, with a lot of life and sparkle. The beads are also heavy and the rosary weighs 45.8 grams. The Cross measures 3/4 inch by 1 1/4 inch with lovely fiilgree work and design. PALHBOOKS.COM proudly features: This rare and beautiful set hails from France. The set consists of a rosary and a bracelet, which are gold gilt. The set is like new, with a tag that says, "Les Beaux Chapelets." The reverse of the tag says, "Nacre veritable." The beads on both items measure approx. 4-5mm. They look like genuine elephant ivory beads, but I do not see Scraeger lines. The French tag - Nacre veritable -translates into "genuine mother-of-pearl," but these are not mother of pearl. We do not what to make of this, but we acquired this with the tag and are leaving it on.

. The necklace part of the rosary measures 19 1/2 inches all around; the part from the Center Medal to the tip of the Cross is 5 mm. The Cross has exquisite details in front and measures 1 by 1 1/2 inches. The Center Medal shows the image of Mary and a spray of flowers in the reverse. This measures a bit over 1/2 inch. The rosary weighs 3.3 grams.

The bracelet measures 6 1/2 inches, and there is a part that dangles with a medal showing Our Lady which can dangle or be used as a 1/2 inch extender, allowing the bracelet to be 7 inches long. There are double rows of beads that are connected in the middle by a lovely piece showing the image of Our Lady. The beads also measure approx. 4-5 mm. The medal at the end measures 1/2 inch by a bit over 1/2 inch. The Center piece measures 3/8 of an inch.

Each bead is shaped like bicones or diamond in shape. The Ave Maria Beads are huge at 10 mm each; the Pater Beads are larger at 12 mm in size. What is special about this rosary are the 3 antique relics attached to it, and there is also an antique medal attached. We have seen relics such as these only once before. Each relic is covered with a luminiscent pearl-like material. The edges of the relics have blackened and chipped off from age. You can make out the faint image of a Basilica (in one) and figures on the other relics. The small medal shows the image of the Sacred Heart on one side and Mary holding Baby Jesus on the other. The Ave Maria Center Medal measures 5/8 inch. The Cross measures 1 1/2 by 2 1/3 inches and is very solidly built with lovely filigree details. The rosary is handsomer than the pictures show. 103) RARE ANTIQUE CORAL ROSARY, FRENCH, 1920s- FIRST COMMUNION- We acquired this rosary from France. This is a magnificent rosary made of genuine sea coral beads, each measuring approx. 4mm in size. The rosary is in excellent condition. It has splendid medals for Pater beads; the medals show the image of Mary on one side and Jesus on the other. The Cross measures 1 by 1 1/2 inches; it has beautiful details, much nicer than the picture shows. The back of the Cross is inscribed "Souvenir de Lourdes." The necklace part measures 25 inches; the dangling part from the Center Medal to the tip of the Cross measures 5 4/5 inches. The Center Medal has a lovely ornate design surrounding the image of Mary; the back of the Center Medal is unmarked. The metals is gilt, in very condition. It weighs 15.8 grams. This is a rare antique rosary from the Deco or 1920s era and is highly collectible. 108) ANTIQUE 1800S FILIGREE SILVER AND JET ROSARY - This is a very old rosary, perhaps hailing from the 1700s. The most dramatic element of this rosary is the large Cross made of filigree sterling silver, and measuring 2 1/2 by 3 1/2. The Cross is more imposing in person than the picture shows, as the Corpus and some floral designs are high relief and stick out. The Corpus has a gold plate over the silver. When we acquired this rosary we were told that the beads are jet or Whitby jet, which is a rare form of carbon, and highly collectible. The beads are antique and irregular in shape since they were handcut. The Ave Maria beads are approximately 8 mm; the Pater Beads are larger at 10-11 mm. There seems to be one Ave Maria bead that's been replaced. There are beautiful florette spacers on either side of the Pater beads; one of these florette spacers looks slightly different from the others. This exquisite and rare rosary weighs a hefty 78.5 grams. The configuration of the rosary beads are different from contemporary rosaries; this is part of the antiquity of this piece. There are no Pater Beads along with the three Ave Maria beads next to the Cross. The Pater beads are in the necklace part, as seen in the picture. It is possible that this rosary was also used as a rosary necklace, as they did in the past. This rare rosary is for the serious collector. 311) RARE ANTIQUE VICTORIAN SAPHIRET ROSARY #2- This rosary is made of rare glass saphiret beads. Saphiret was made in Gablonz,Czechoslavakia in the mid-19th century, by by infusing real gold into blue glass, giving it a bicolor apearance and unique color-change qualities. It was a luxury item in the 1880-1920, and is no longer produced. The beads throw off colors of pink, mauve and blue. The saphiret beads measure 7-8mm and all 59 beads are in excellent condition. The handsome Cross measures 1 1/3 by 2 inches. The Ave Maria Center Medals measures 3/4 inch. The necklace part measures 25 inches; the dangling part from the Center Medal to the tip of the Cross is 6 1/2 inches The rosary weighs a hefty 52.7 grams. The metal is gilt with the gold 99% intact.. This is a rare and beautiful example of saphiret craftsmanship The photos show the rosary under natural light; it is actually livelier and richer in color in person. ANTIQUE FRENCH BLACK ROSARY WITH UNIQUE PATER BEADS- This antique rosary hails from France. It is made of black art glass beads. The round beads measure approx. 4 mm. The necklace part measures 19 inches, and the dangling part from the Center Medal to the tip of the Cross is another 5 1/2 inches. When we acquired this rosary, it was quite dirty with black stuff covering the metal. After cleaning it, we were surprised to read the inscription in back of the Cross, "19 Mai 1907" with someone's initials. The lovely Cross has lovely details in front and measures 1 1 /2 by 3/4 inches; the Center Medal is also quite lovely, showing Mary on one side and lillies in the reverse; this measures 1/2 inch. Each Pater Bead shows either Mary or Jesus, and the reverse has a circular pattern. The Pater Bead measures almost 1/2 inch across. The three Ave Maria beads in the dangling part are oval and are made of a different material from the round beads. This rosary has been loved from the start, as indicated by the inscription. Perhaps it was a Confirmation gift to a beloved child? We don't know, but it clearly has a lot of history.

The Cross measures 2 by 2 3/4 inches; the bail adds another 3/4 inch. The metal in the Cross is all sterling silver. The Cross is multi-dimensional and has a lot of silver surrounding each coral bead so that the Cross has a thickness of 8mm. It is made of glass beads that contain what is supposed to be gold dust.The metal is all sterling silver, heavy and well made. Each glass bead measures 6mm. The necklace part measures 30 inches all around, plus another 7 inches from the Center Medal to the tip of the Cross. The Cross measures 1 1/5 by almost 2 inches. It is marked sterling in the back and it is heavy and of high quality. The Center Medal measures 3/4 inch and is a handsome deco design showing the Sacred Heart with a Cross on top. I cannot find a mark but it is also sterling silver. There are nice spacers or extenders with a Cross design; these too are heavy and sturdy. The entire rosary is very well made and sturdy and will last a lifetime. There is a blue enamel medal attached; this shows Our lady in front and the intials AM with stars in the back. It is richer in color, more vibrant, and the rare art glass beads show multicolors with a glow. Each bead measures 5 mm. The medal Pater beads measure 8 mm. The Cross measures 1 1/4 by 1 1/3 inches. It has a lovely scroll design around the Corpus and all over the back. The Center Medals is heart shaped and measures 1/2 inch. It shows the Sacred Heart in front surrounded by the scroll design; the back shows a space surrounded by scroll marks; the space may have been there for someone's initials or for a date; this is blank. The Pater medals have varied designs: one shows Jesus, another shows Mary holding Baby Jesus, another shows Jesus with someone, and an angel thinking. The reverse of the Pater beads show varied designs as well: the Cross in one, flowers in another. There are 2 medals attached. One is a blue enamel round medal showing the image of Mary in front and the reverse shows the image of Bernadette kneeling before our Lady of Lourdes. The other medal is also beautiful showing the image of Mary holding Jesus and the reverse shows Mary and a heart and the inscription, "Medaille du scapulaire." The rosary weighs 26.5 grams. VINTAGE ROCK CRYSTAL STERLING ROSARY - We are privileged to have acquired a number of genuine rock quartz crytal rosaries. This is one of them. This rosary is more beautiful in person because the crystals sparkle and so much depth and richness. Rock crystal is also known as quartz crystal or gem crystal is mined from the earth. Rock crystal has more silicone dioxide than manmade crystal; it is heavier. Each Ave Maria bead is cone or almost tear shaped; each measure 8 mm. The Pater Beads are round, doublecapped and measure 9 mm. The necklace part measures 32 inches; the dangling part is 7 1/4 inches long. Both the Cross and Center Medal are marked "sterling." The Cross measures 2 by 1 1/4 inches. The Center Medal measures almost 1 inch and shows Jesus in front and the reverse has Mary holding Baby Jesus. It weighs 44.2 grams. Part of our collection - RARE ANTIQUE VICTORIAN SAPHIRET ROSARY - This rosary is made of rare glass saphiret beads. Saphiret was made in Gablonz,Czechoslavakia in the mid-19th century, by by infusing real gold into blue glass, giving it a bicolor apearance and unique color-change qualities. It was a luxury item in the 1880-1920, and is no longer produced. The rectangular beads throw off colors of pink, mauve and blue. The saphiret beads are oval/rectangular measuring 8mm by 4mm; the spacers are unique and quite lovely with the filigree design. The necklace part measures 32 inches; the dangling part from the Center Medal to the tip of the Cross is 7 inches The rosary weighs 29.1 grams. The metal is gilded brass. The contrast between the gilt and the crystal beads is also very beautiufl We believe this is made of rock crystal. Rock crystal, also known as quartz crystal or gem crystal is mined from the earth. 52) GENUINE ELEPHANT IVORY & SILVER ROSARY WITH UNIQUE CROSS & LADY OF GUADALUPE CENTER MEDAL- This rosary is much nicer than the pictures show. This is a rare ivory rosary made from pre-ban elephant ivory beads and sterling silver. The remarkable features about this rosary are the Cross and Center Medal. The Cross shows two figures at the foot of the Cross; there are skulls at the lower end of the Cross. The Cross is huge measuring 2 by 3inches; likewise it is a heavy solid piece. The Center Medal is also unique showing Our Lady of Guadalupe, and measuring 1 1/4 by 1 3/4 inches. Each ivory bead measures a large 10 mm in size. There are silver spacers with lovely etched pattern. The beads measure approx. 10mm. The necklace part measures a very long 40 inches, and the dangling part is another 10 inches. The rosary weighs 103.5 grams. Ivory and silver rosaries such as this were fit for kings, cardinals and royalty in the olden days.

10) SILVER FILIGREE AND GENUINE CORAL ROSENKRANZ ROSARY - We acquired some antique rosenkranz rosaries, which are typical of Bavaria/Southern Germany. Called Rosenkranz, these rosaries were used from the 17th to 18th century. The original condition of this one was pathetic, with broken strings and beads in a sorry state. We restored it, using the original main filigree Cross, Credo Cross, and Pater Beads with sterling silver metal and genuine handcut genuine coral beads. The main filigree Cross has a ceramic image of the Crucified Christ, with a repair.. The back shows another cross-shaped ceramic, also with a repair. The repair areas are not really noticeable and reflects the old age of this item. The main Cross measures 3 1/2 by 2 2/3 inches. There is a Credo Cross (to remind one to pray for Faith, Hope, and Charity), above the Main Cross, which measures 1 inch by 1 inch. The necklace part of the rosary measures 38inches; the dangling part is 9 inches. The coral beads are irregular in shape, some larger than others; the largest is around 15mm, and the shortest is around 10 mm. The rosary weighs a hefty 117.2 grams. This is a beautiful rosary with a lot of history.

26) ANTIQUE IVORY OR BONE STANHOPE ROSARY WITH LEATHER CASE - The picture makes this rosary look small, but it is regular sized - note the size of the beads and length. It is an antique rosary made of carved ivory or bone. Each Ave Maria bead is approximate 7 mm; and the Pater beads are bigger at around 8-9mm. The necklace part of this rosary is 24 inches. The dangling part is around 5 inches. Typical of some early 1900s rosaries, there is no center medal. The Cross is made of carved bone or ivory and it has a small peephole through which one can see the image of Mary. This rare rosary is in very nice sturdy condition, and it comes with a handsome brown leather case.

34) GENUINE AMBER ROSARY FROM POLAND - This rosary was acquired in Poland. It is made of genuine Baltic amber and silver (not marked as sterling, and not tested). The beads are irregular in shape, making for a very charming effect. Each bead is approx. 8mm in size. The necklace part measures 32 inches, and the dangling part from the center medal to the tip of the cross is 6 3/4 inches. The rosary weighs 30.7 grams. The amber beads have very lovely and lively lemon color.

35) STERLING SILVER AND GENUINE AMBER ROSARY - From Poland comes this beautiful amber and sterling silver rosary. The amber beads are irregular bead-shaped with very a very lovely cognac color. The necklace part measures 28 inches long and the dangling part from the center medal to the tip of the cross measures 5 1/2 inches. The center medals shows Mary holding the Baby Jesus; the back shows the image of Pope John Paul II (his head, in sideview), making this a nice memento of that great Pope. The rosary weighs 17.0 grams. This rosary feels very comfortable in the hand.

42) FRENCH CARDINAL 1896 MOTHER OF PEARL AND SILVER ROSARY - We acquired this in Lyon, France, and our source said this rosary belonged to the Cardinal of Nimes, France. One side of the medals shows initials that look like "S.B." and the other side says, "25 Avril 1896." We think this belonged to the Bishop Felix-Auguste Bejuinot, who was born in 1836 and who died in 1921. This rosary is made of silver and huge beads of mother of pearl. Each Hail Mary bead is approx. 8mm in size; the Pater Bead is 10mm in size. The necklace part measures 27 inches long; and the dangling part from the center medal to the tip of the cross is another 8 inches. The mother of pearl cross measures 1 2/3 by almost 1 inch. Everything is very substantial and solid. The mother of pearl beads are slightly irregular as they were handcut; this adds to the charm of the piece. The rosary weighs 55.7 grams, and it comes with its own brown leather case. This is a serious item for the serious collector.

46) ANTIQUE CORAL ROSARY, FRENCH, 1920s, GILT, VERY RARE- We acquired this rosary from France. This is a magnificent rosary made of genuine sea coral beads, each measuring approx. 4mm in size. The rosary is in excellent condition. It has splendid medals for Pater beads; the medals show the image of Mary on one side and Jesus on the other. The Cross measures 1 by 1 1/2 inches; it has beautiful details, much nicer than the picture shows. The back of the Cross is inscribed "Souvenir de Lourdes." The necklace part measures 25 inches; the dangling part from the Center Medal to the tip of the Cross measures 5 4/5 inches. The Center Medal has a lovely ornate design surrounding the image of Mary; the back of the Center Medal is unmarked. The metals is gilt and is in very nice condition, with a lot of gold. The color of our picture is slightly off; the actual color of the coral beads is more orangey or the traditional coral color. It weighs 15/8 grams. This is a rare antique rosary from the Deco or 1920s era.

62) GENUINE ELEPHANT IVORY AND STERLING SILVER ROSARY WITH ANGEL- This is a rare ivory rosary made from pre-ban elephant ivory beads and sterling silver. The ivory beads are very lovely; they have a pattern on them, like ridges - very lovely! The necklace part of the rosary measures approx. 36 inches; and the dangling part is 8 1/2 inches. The beads measure bead measure approx. 10mm. The rosary weighs a hefty 59.8grams. The Cross is very handsome as is the Center Medal which shows an angel. They are unmarked but are mde of sterling silver. This rosary is much nicer than the pictures show. Genuine elephant ivory rosaries are very hard to find such as this one with lovely ridged beads.

65) ANTIQUE FRENCH GARNET ROSARY WITH 2 MEDALS - This rosary is nicer than the picture shows. It is an antique from France, and we were told the beads are garnet, although we have not tested it and these could be antique glass that used to be made to imitate garnet. The beads are irregularly cut, and have variations in color - some beads darker, some lighter. Each bead measures approx. 4 mm in size. The Cross measures 1 by 5/8 inch. The necklace part measures 18 inches and the dangling part from the Center Medal to the tip of the Cross is another 4 1/4 inches. The rosary weighs 13.8 grams. There are two antique medals attached to the rosary. One shows Mary with a crown, holding Jesus with St. Benedict? kneeling in front of them. The reverse shows the image of the Sacred Heart. The other medal shows the Cross and the reverse shows the image looking like a Bishop or Patriarch. There are inscriptions all around which are fine and difficult to read; they seem to be Latin. The Center Medal shows the lovely image of Mary; and the reverse if blank. The medals are in themselves collectible. We believe this hails from the late 1800s

74a) SMALL STERLING ROSARY WITH PETIT POINTE CASE- This is a lovely small sized rosary with its own case. The rosary is sterling silver, and the necklace part measures 17 inches; the part that dangles from the Center Medal to the tip of the Cross measures 4 1/2 inches. The rosary weighs 10 grams. The brass rosary holder has handmade stitched petit pointe on top. It snaps tightly. This will make a lovely heirloom gift.

69dd) SPANISH COLONIAL SILVER ROSARY WITH UNIQUE ETCHED BEADS -For some 333 years, Spain conducted a galleon trade between Seville, Mexico, and the Philippines, transporting Spanish colonial goods throughout Spain's vast empire. This silver rosary hails from the Spanish Colonial days in the Philippines, the 1800s. It have very interesting beads, which are somewhat barrell-shaped and with lovely etched design. Each Ave Maria bead measures approx. 5mm and the Pater Beads measure 8mm. The necklace part of the rosary measures 24inches; the dangling part from the Center medal to the tip of the Cross is 63/4 inches. The rosary weighs 22.1 grams. The Center Medal reflects the age of this piece with its simple etching of the Cross with rays in the front. The Cross measures 2 by 1 1/4 inches. The head of Christ is somewhat squashed, a victim of antiquity, but the Corpus as a whole is still handsome, with details of Christ's loin cloth showing intricate folds. The Cross also has elaborate details, quite beautiful, which are not showin in the pictures. This is a lovely, rare Spanish colonial antique silver rosary.

9) ANTIQUE 1800S STERLING SILVER WITH TORTOISE SHELL BOX HOLDER - For the serious collector, we have an incredible find - an antique sterling silver rosary with its own tortoise shell box holder. The antique sterling rosary is rare and in wonderful condition. The beads measure approx. 3 mm in size. The necklace part is 22 inches; and the dangling part is 7 1/2 inches. The rosary has unique medal spacers. Each medal spacer is approx. 8mm in diameter and has images of Mary, Jesus, with a design in the back showing what I believe is a spray of flowers and the Cross. The Cross is wonderfully detailed and measures 1 1/2 by 7/8 inch. I do not see any dents on the beads. The rosary has a nice patina and weighs 12.9 grams.

The tortoise shell holder is from the 1700s or 1800s, with real gold decoration. The box has cracks but it is holding together nicely and the hinge is strong. Tortoise shell boxes such a this one are rare and are highly collectible by themselves. Note that the box is not in perfect condition as the rosary.

3) SPANISH COLONIAL GALLEON TREASURE 1800S SOLID SILVER ROSARY- For some 333 years, Spain conducted a galleon trade between Seville, Mexico, and the Philippines, transporting Spanish colonial goods throughout Spain's vast empire. This rosary hails from those Spanish colonial days. We acquired it without a Cross, and so we placed a reproduction 1800s sterling Cross on it, also a Spanish Colonial design (Latin American). While the Cross is a reproduction, the rest of the rosary is authentic from Spanish Colonial days, around the 1800s. The Pater beads are capped on one end, and each measures approx. 10mm. The Ave Maria beads measure approx. 8mm. The necklace part of the rosary measures 31 inches long, and the dangling part from the center medal to the tip of the cross is 7 1/2 inches long and weighs a hefty 59.8 grams. The connecting chain are double wired - very sturdy. The sterling Cross is large and heavy with a handsome Corpus and lovely details in front and back. This is a magnificent piece!

78) SOLID STERLING SILVER ROSARY WITH ANGEL MOTIFF- This is a beautiful sterling silver rosary with a handsome Cross and Center Medal.. The necklace part measures 31 inches, and the dangling part is 7 1/2 inches long. It weighs 31.8 grams. The cross and Center Medal are substantial, and the whole things feels solid. The Cross and Center Medal have more details than the picture shows. Each Ave Maria bead measures 4-5mm; each Pater Bead measures 6-7 mm. This is an exquisite sterling silver rosary.1a) RARE VINTAGE SILVER ROSARY WITH ENAMEL CENTER MEDAL - This is a very lovely old silver rosary. The Cross and Center Medal are marked "sterling." The necklace part of the rosary measures 27 inches long, and the dangling part from the center medal to the tip of the cross is 6 1/2 inches long and weighs 25.8 grams. Each Ave Maria bead has an interesting shape, with ridges all throughout. The longest part of the bead measures approx. 8mm; and the Pater Beads measure 4mm. The Center Medal is blue enamel showing Our Lady; and the back shows an M with a Cross, and 2 hearts, depicting Our Lady's Heart and the Sacred Heart. The Cross measures 2 inches by 1 1/3 inches. We do not come across ridged beads like these ones. It is a very rare and beautiful rosary.

19) ANTIQUE RARE STERLING SILVER ROSARY WITH FLUTED BEADS AND WHITING DAVIS ROSARY CASE - This is such a lovely set! The sterling silver rosary has interesting ridged Ave Maria beads that look like two pyramids together, something like a diamond but in the round. Each Ave Maria bead measures 8 mm. The Pater Bead is round, measuring 4mm. The necklace part measures 25 inches; dangling part measures 6 inches. The rosary is marked sterling and weighs 24.6 grams. The Cross measures 1 2/3 by 1 inch; the Center Medal measures 1/2 inch. The Cross and Center Medal have elaborate designs. There is a blue enamel medal showing the image of Mary; this enamel medal shows some wear. The Whiting Davis case is silver tone and clean inside and in very good condition. The set is in excellent condition.

HAND CRAFTED SOLID 925 STERLING SILVER ROSARY WITH MARY BEADS & ST. ANTHONY OF PADUA- This is an exquisite solid sterling silver rosary with it's own leather case. The Ave Maria beads are oval shaped and show the image of Mary etched on both sides. The Pater beads near the three Ave Maria beads in the dangling part of the rosary are round and show the image of Christ on one side and the Trinity on the other (2 male figures and a dove). The other Pater Beads show St. Anthony of Padua and Jesus. The Center Medal shows St. Anthony of Padua on the one side and the image of the Basilica del Sancto, Padova (referring to St. Anthony's Basilica) on the other. The necklace part measures approx. 36 inches; the dangling part from the Center Medal to the tip of the Cross is 7 inches. The rosary has a lot of weight at 56.8 grams. This rosary in solid sterling silver and so marked with the 925 mark. This is a wonderful heirloom quality rosary that will last more than a lifetime.

69) RARE ANTIQUE 1800s FILIGREE ROSENKRANZ ROSARY - This rosary has Bavarian roots. The beads are all filigree and the Cross as well. Each Ave Maria bead is approx. 6 mm; and the pater Beads are 10 mm. The Cross measures approx. 1 3/4 by 1 1/4 inches. The beautiful Cross has a ceramic with the figure of Christ in front; and the back also has a ceramic Cross with and Eye where the head of Christ ought to be. The necklace part of the rosary measures 26 inches; the dangling part from the Center medal to the tip of the Cross is 6 1/4 inches. The rosary weighs 31.2grams.

69cc) FILIGREE STERLING SILVER ROSARY WITH CASE - This is a beautiful sterling silver rosary with exquisite details. The Ave Maria beads are filigree and measure 5-6mm. There are lovely unique oval spacers with the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe on one side and Christ on the other. The filigree Cross measures 1 by 1 1/2 inches. The filigree Center Medal shaped like a heart measures 2/3 inch. The necklace part measures 27 inches; the dangling part is 6 3/4 inches. The rosary weighs 24.9 grams. The rosary container looks like a small book and measures 2 by 2 1/2 inches. It is made of silver tone metal, with lovely details in front and in the back. The front has the image of Jesus of the Divine Mercy or Our Lady of Guadalupe. This set will make a lasting gift.

69bb) 1940s SOLID STERLING "NUGGET" SILVER ROSARY WITH CASE - This is a top quality sterling silver rosary with its own case. What is unique about this silver rosary is that the beads are solid and very dense and feel like nuggets. Each bead measures 5-6mm long. The necklace part measures 26 inches; the dangling part is 6 inches. The rosary weighs 27.1 grams. The handsome Cross measures 1 by 1 3/4 inches; the back is inscribed, "G. Michniewicz '42. It is marked "Sterling." There is a small round blue enamel medal attached. The rosary container looks like a small book and measures 2 by 2 1/2 inches; this is not marked sterling. It shows the image of Mary.

GENUINE RED CRYSTAL ROSARY FROM MARY'S HOUSE IN EPHESUS-Mary spent her last years in Ephesus with John the Beloved, following Christ's crucifixion. Now an important pilgrim site since John Paul II's visit, the site of her house is under the care of the Franciscans. There is a small chapel where her house had stood, and nearby is a spring, now tapped, so visitors can get water. Muslims and Christians alike venerate Our Lady here. She is beloved among the Muslims who call her "Miriam."

I will send a small vial of spring water from Mary's house with the rosaries acquired in Ephesus. This is a genuine red crystal rosary, double capped in gold tone metal. Each cyrstal bead measures 8mm. The Cross measures approx. 2 1/4 by 1 1/4. The Center Medal shows Mary with the inscription, "Regine sine originale concepta o.p.n." The reverse shows the Cross, M, and stars. The necklace part measures 32 inches, and the dangling part is another 7 inches. The rosary has a nice heavy weight of 53.8 grams and feels good in the hands.

8) VINTAGE BLUE ROSARY WRAPPED IN WIRE- This is a beautiful and sturdy rosary made of blue glass beads with wire wrapped around each bead. It is what they call "unbreakable." Each bead measures 9mm. The Cross measures 1 1/4 by 2 1/4 inches; it is inscribed "I am a Catholic. In case of an accident notify a priest. The rosary is 30 inches long. The dangling part measures 7 1/4 inches. The rosary weighs a hefty 50.6 grams.This is a unique, beautiful, sturdy rosary.

11) RARE GENUINE ROCK CRYSTAL STERLING ROSARY- This lovely vintage rosary is made of genuine rock cyrstal beads, which measure 8mm. The necklace part measures 36inches; the dangling part from the center medal to the tip of the cross is 9 inches. The handsome Cross measures 1 1/4 BY 2 1/4 inches. The lovely Center Medal measures 2/3 by 1 inch. The rosary has lovely unique silver spacers. This is a rare genuine rock crystal rosary, unlike other crystal rosaries that are man-made. The rosary is much nicer than the pictures show. The crystal has so much life, the beads look like diamonds. The rosary weighs a hefty 60.1 grams; it is the weight of the crystal that makes the rosary heavy. The reverse of the Cross and Center Medal are hallmarked indicating the metal is sterling silver. While there are crystal rosaries marked for less, there are few that are of top quality such as this one.

18) VINTAGE LONG, HEAVY, STURDY STERLING SILVER AND CRYSTAL ROSARY - This is a beautiful vintage rosary, hailing from the 1950s or 1960s! The crystal beads are lilac in color, with interesting faceting throwing off a lot of fire and sparkle. The beads are large, measuring 8 by10 mm each. Necklace part measures 34 inches long; dangling part is 7 inches. The rosary is marked "sterling." The rosary weighs 48.5 grams. The Center Medal is heavy and substantial. It shows the image of Mary on one side and Jesus on the other. The Cross measures 2 by 1 inches. It is sturdy and well made and will last a lifetime.

The details on the Cross, Center Medal and the spacers are equisite. This is a magnificent heirloom quality rosary! We believe this rosary hails from the Deco era, around 1930.

29) VINTAGE 1950S STERLING SILVER & CRYSTAL ROSARY - LONG, HEAVY - This is a beautiful vintage rosary! The crystal beads are lavender in color. The color is actually more blue/violet than the picture shows. The large cone beads have a lot of fire and sparkle. The beads are large, with each bead measuring 10mm. The necklace part measures 33 inches long; dangling part is 7 1/2inches. The rosary is marked "sterling." The rosary weighs 44.9 grams. This lovely, heavy rosary is much, much nicer than the picture shows. It is sturdy and well made and will last for a lifetime.

31) CLASSIC VINTAGE STERLING SILVER & CRYSTAL ROSARY - This is a classic crystal and sterling rosary. Each diamond-shaped bead measures 6 mm. The necklace part measures 28 inches; the dangling part measures 6 1/2 inches. It weighs 22.9 grams. The Cross measures 1 by 1 3/4 inches and is inscribed "sterling" in the back. The lovely Center Medal is 1/2 inch. The front shows the image of Our Lady, and the reverse shows the image of Jesus. The Pater Beads have little bead caps. The decorative details in this rosary are subtle but exquisite. This hails from the 1940s or 1950s. This is a lovely heirloom rosary that will last a lifetime

32) DECO ERA BOHEMIAN ART GLASS AND SILVER ROSARY - This is very lovely rosary made of rare heavy Bohemian art glass beads with white swirls in the glass. The beads measure 8mm, and are capped at both ends. The silver caps have rare pierced work. The cross measures 2 1/2 by 1 1/2 inches; the center medal measures 3/4 by 3/4 inch at the widest parts. The necklace part measures 30 inches, and the dangling part from the tip of the cross to the Ave Maria center medal is another 7 inches. The rosary is heavy at 68.8 grams and feels good in the hands. It is a sturdy well made and beautiful rosary that one can treasure for a lifetime. We estimate this came from the 1920s. Rare art glass beads such as these are bought and turned into jewelry and sold for a high price

44) 1930s ANTIQUE FRENCH ROSARY MADE OF RED ART GLASS BEADS - We are offering an antique from the 1930s. The rosary is from France. The red beads are interesting; they have cut-marks like art glass, but these could be early resin.. They are slightly irregular, revealing the age of this rosary. Each red bead measures approx. 5mm in size. The necklace part measures 18 1/2 inches long; the dangling part from the Center Medal to the tip of the Cross is 4 3/4 inches. It weighs 11.8 grams. The Cross is very handsome and measures 1 by 3/4 inch; the Center Medal measures 8mm by 10mm; the front shows the image of Our Lady; the reverse shows the Lourdes image with Bernadette kneeling in front of Our Lady.

We are including a modern rosary holder, made of goldtone metal, measuring 2 by 1 1/4 by 1/2 inch. Note that there is an irregularity at the bottom of the rosary holder; you can see it in the picture - a cloudiness. Padre Pio is an Italian saint from Peitrelcina who was gifted with the stigmata during his lifetime.

53) RUBY RED OR GARNET COLORED CRYSTAL AND STERLING SILVER ROSARY - This is a beautiful rosary! The red colored crystals are much deeper and richer in color and the beads brighter and more vibrant. Each bead measures approx. 10mm. The necklace part measures approx. 27 inches; the dangling part from the Center Medal to the tip of the Cross is 6 1/2 inches. The rosary has a lovely weight of 46.6 grams. The Ave Maria Center Medal has elaborate etchings, very pretty, not showing. The handsome Cross has lovely details which are not showing well in the picture. There are angels at the ends of the Cross. The reverse of the Cross is inscribed, "Adveniat Regnum Tuum." The Center Medal, Cross and metal are unmarked but made of sterling silver.

58) 1800s ANTIQUE FRENCH WHITE GILT ROSARY WITH UNIQUE SPACERS AND CASE - This rosary is much nicer than the picture shows. It is antique made of white glass beads. One side of the faceted beads is lumiscent gold. The metal is gilt, with slight wear consistent with its age. Each bead measures approx. 4 by 5 mm; each spacer measures approx. 6mm. The necklace part measures 24 inches; the dangling part from the Center Medal to the tip of the Cross measures 6 1/4 inches. The Cross has intricate details not showing in the pictures. The Center Medal shows the image of Mary on one side and the image of Jesus on the other. The case is gold mesh measuring 2 1/4 by 3 inches. The case may not be as old as the rosary. The rosary and case make a lovely and rare set.

64) UNIQUE BLACK AND CLEAR BEADED VINTAGE ROSARY - We believe this unusual rosary hails from the 1950s. It is made of clear glass beads, with a black middle part. The effect is very lovely! The necklace part of the rosary measures 28 inches; the dangling part from the Center medal to the tip of the Cross is 7 inches. The rosary weighs 54.9 grams. The Cross measures 1 1/2 by 2 1/3 inches; it is inscribed in the back, "I am a Catholic in case of an accident please notify a priest." This is a lovely and rare vintage rosary

81) EXQUISITE LONG STERLING SILVER CRYSTAL ANTIQUE ROSARY - This is a beautiful, heavy and beautiful rosary. Each bead measures 10 by 8mm and double capped; note one cap is different from the rest. This is in no way noticeable, but mentioned here for accuracy. The beads are deep blue with a lot of fire and sparkle. The necklace part is very long at 40 inches long; the dangling part is 8 1/5 inches. It weighs 74.7 grams. The metal is silver. This is a beautiful antique quality rosary.

87) ANTIQUE 1930s STERLING CLASSIC BLACK ROSARY - This is a handsome classic rosary made of sterling and black faceted beads. It is a top quality heirloom rosary. Each Ave Maria oval bead measures 10mm long; each Pater Bead measures 6mm. The necklace part measures 34 inches; the dangling part is 7 inches. The handsome sterling silver Cross measures 1 1/4 by 1 3/4 inches, and the Center Medal measures 1/2 inch in diameter. The Center Medal shows more details in reality; on the one side there is the Crowned Mary holding Baby Jesus; on the back is the Sacred Heart, which this picture shows. The back of the Cross is inscribed F.S. Co. Ster, indicating the manufacturer and that the metal is sterling. A small blue enamel is attached.

2) ANTIQUE FRENCH ROSARY, UNUSUAL RARE BEADS, 1930s- This beautiful rosary comes from France and is made of very unusual beads that are bluish-gray in color and handcut as to be irregular. I was told that these are volcanic in origin but I am not sure. They are very interesting. Each bead measures approx. 4mm in size. The Pater Beads are double capped at the ends. The necklace part of the rosary measures 18 inches long, and the dangling part from the Center Medal to the tip of the Cross is 5 1/4 inches long. The rosary weighs 16.4 grams. The Cross measures 1 by 1 5/8 inches. The Center Medal is typically French, showing the image of our Lady and measuring less than half an inch. This is a lovely unusual rosary in excellent condition. We believe this hails from the 1930s.

9) ANTIQUE/VINTAGE KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS BLACK WOOD ROSARY- This is a handsome classic black wood rosary from Italy. A viewer, a member of the Knights of Columbus, 3rd Degree, informed us that this is a rosary given to all Knights of Columbus upon entering the Catholic fraternal order. The centerpiece is the KofC Shield. The Knights of Columbus is the wolrd's largest Catholic fraternal service organization. Founded in the United States in 1882, it is named in honor of Christopher Columbus and describes itself as being dedicated to the principles of Charity, Unity, Fraternity, and Patriotism. There are currently more than 1.7 million members, with membership limited to "practical Catholic" men aged 18 or older.

Each oval wood bead measures 5 by 8 mm. The necklace part measures 27 inches; the dangling part measures 6 5/8 inches. It weighs 18.2 grams. The Cross measures 2 by 1 1/4 inches. The Center Medal measures approx. 3/4 inch. This is a handsome classic black wood rosary with a lot of history. The rosary most likely hails from the 1940s.

55) GENUINE AMETHYST ROSARY FROM JERUSALEM (We have similar rosaries in carnelian, malachite and hematite)- This rosary is made of genuine amethyst beads, measuring approx. 6mm each. The necklace part measures 26 inches long; and the dangling part from the center medal to the tip of the cross is another 6 inches. The rosary weighs 35.4 grams. Some beads have slight variation in color. The birthstone of February, the amethyst gemstone is said to have many powers including: dreams, healing, peace, love, spiritual upliftment, courage, psychism, protection against thieves, and happiness.

13aa) OUR LADY OF CARMEL CLOTH SCAPULAR-ROSARY - This is a scapular and rosary at the same time. It is made of brown cloth with decorative crystal beads. The necklace part of the Scapular-Rosary measures 26 inches; the longer dangling part measures 5 1/4 inches. These scapular-rosaries were made by Carmelite Catholic Nuns in the Philippines. It fits nicely around the neck, is light, durable and will wash nicely.

THE GOLDEN ARROW PRAYER - REPARATION TO THE HOLY FACE

The following Golden Arrow Prayer was given by Our Lord to Sister Mary Saint Peter in Tours, France. It is a short but powerful prayer by which a person can "shoot directly into the Heart of God" to heal the wounds inflicted on it by the malice of sinners. Of the 9 promises connected with this devotion, the first three are 1) "By My Holy Face you will work miracles;" 2) "By My Face you will obtain the conversion of many sinners;" and 3) "Nothing you ask in making this offering will be refused to you."

This prayer was dictated by our Lord Himself to Sister Mary of St. Peter. Opening His Heart to her, our Savior complained of blasphemy, saying that this frightful sin wounds His Divine Heart more grievously than all other sins, for it was like "a poisoned arrow."

Our Lord said those who recite this prayer would pierce Him delightfully, and also heal those other wounds inflicted on Him by the malice of sinners. This prayer is regarded as the very basis of the Work of Reparation. It is recommended for recitation on each of the thirty-three beads of the Holy Face Chaplet. This chaplet is composed of 33 small beads, and 6 larger beads.

MARY'S 15 PROMISES FOR SAYING THE ROSARY

HOW TO PRAY THE ROSARY

The Catholic Rosary has 59 beads. The first part has 2 Pater Beads (Our Father), and 3 Ave Maria (Hail Mary) Beads. The second part has 5 decades, that is 5 sets of 1 Pater Bead and 10 Ave Maria Beads.

The entire rosary consists of 20 decades, but it is customary to recite 5 decades at a time while meditating on the following Mysteries:
Joyful - said on Monday and Thursday
Sorrowful - said on Tuesday and Friday
Glorious - said on Wednesday and Sunday
Luminous - said on Thursday

The Mysteries allow for meditating on various aspects of the lives of Jesus Christ and Mary.

The following gives you the sequence of the prayers:

1. Make the Sign of the Cross, then say the Credo.
2. Recite 1 Our Father, 3 Hail Marys, 1 Our Father
3. Recite the Fatima Prayer
4. Recall the 1st Rosary Mystery, and recite 1 Our Father, followed by 10 Hail Marys;
5. Recite the Glory Be
6. Recite the Fatima Prayer
7. The next decades are prayed in the same manner: recall the mystery, recite 1 Our Father, 10 Hail Marys, 1 Glory Be, then back to the Fatima Prayer again.
8. After the 5th Mystery, the Rosary ends with Hail Holy Queen, and the Sign of the Cross.

THE HISTORY OF THE CATHOLIC ROSARY

Desert hermits (anchorites) and monks in the early centuries of the Church’s history recited the entire Psalter (150 psalms) every day. Imitating this practice, the people recited 150 Ave Marias using small pebbles as a way of keeping track of the numbers of Aves they had said.

St. Dominic Guzman (1170-1221) is credited with introducing the devotion of the Holy Rosary. St. Dominic was born in 1170 in Calaroga, Castille (Spain). St. Dominic attended the University of Palencia and he was ordained a priest at the age of 24 by the Bishop of Osma, Spain. When he was 33 years old, St. Dominic was in France where he confronted the growing Albingensian heresy. The Albigensians believed that adultery, fornication, and suicide were praiseworthy; there is no heaven, no hell, no moral code. St. Dominic traveled from village to village teaching the truths of the Faith. The Albigensians jeered, insulted, and pelted him with stones as he traveled along their roads. St. Dominic continued preaching to the Albingensians with little success, until Our Lady revealed to him the devotion of the Rosary: “Therefore preach my Psalter composed of 150 Angelic Salutations and 15 Our Fathers, and you will obtain an abundant harvest,” Our Lady said to St. Dominic, in the Church of Prouille in 1208.

The Confraternity of the Rosary was first started by St. Dominic in Palencia in 1218. It's members pray the 15 decades of the Rosary during the week. Mary has confirmed the value of the Confraternity in her well-known Rosary promises: "I have obtained from my Son that all the members of the Confraternity have in life and in death all the Blessed as their associates." Pope Clement VIII declared that St. Dominic established the Confraternity of the Rosary in the Church of St. Sixtus in Rome. Pope Alexander VI in 1495, addressed St. Dominic as "the renowned preacher long ago of the Confraternity of the Rosary, and through his merits, the whole world was preserved from universal ruin." The Confraternity retained its first fervor for 100 years after it was instituted by St. Dominic. After this, it was forgotten. Divine Providence assigned the restoration of it to the eminent French Dominican theologian and preacher, Alan de la Roche. During the 15th century, this son of St. Dominic restored the Rosary to its former vitality.

From the time St. Dominic introduced this devotion until 1569, there were many versions of the Rosary. In that year, St. Pope Pius V, himself a Dominican, issued an apostolic letter establishing the fifteen-Mystery form of the Holy Rosary as the official, Church-authorized version. This was the format in use for the next four centuries. In the year 2002, Pope John Paul II published an apostolic letter that added five more Mysteries, making a total of twenty authorized Mysteries.

The Church celebrates the feast of Our Lady of the Rosary on October 7. This commemorates the day in 1571 when Christian forces defeated the Turkish (Moslem) fleet in a sea battle at Lepanto, off the western coast of Greece. St. Pope Pius V had asked all Christians to pray the Rosary for victory.

The complete Rosary consists in the recitation of fifteen groups of ten 'decades' of the Marian prayer the 'Hail Mary', each headed by an 'Our Father', while meditating on the principle events surrounding Jesus' life, especially where these have a specific connection with Mary.
The Rosary then consists of 150 Hail Mary's and this indicates its origin probably lay as a counterpart to the 150 psalms which were recited by religious orders as part of the Divine Office. Generally it is said in three groups of fifty Hail Mary's to correspond to the 'Joyful', 'Sorrowful' and 'Glorious' mysteries of Christ's life, death and Resurrection, which were lived in union with Mary his Mother.
The Rosary is a prayerful Scriptural meditation, since the Our Father is Jesus' own prayer given to his disciples when they had asked him how they should pray (Matt 6:9-13). The first part of the Hail Mary is also Scriptural, being a compilation of part of the dialogue between Mary and the Angel Gabriel at the Annunciation (Lk 1:28), combined with the exclamation made by Elizabeth during the Visitation (Lk 1:42). In fact the prayer was originally known as the 'Angelic salutation' (greeting), with Elizabeth's greeting only being added generally during the medieval period.

The second part of the Hail Mary, the intercessory prayer to Mary, seems to date from about the eleventh century and was gradually adopted by the Church in general, with the whole prayer being finally fixed in its present form during the sixteenth century.
